A ballet shoe, or ballet slipper, is a lightweight shoe designed specifically for ballet dancing. It may be made from soft leather, canvas, or satin, and has flexible, thin soles. Traditionally, women wear pink shoes and men wear white or black shoes. They may have one full sole or be a split sole, 2 small soles at the heel and the toe. They may have one strap across the ankle or 2 straps criss cross. Traditionally shoes have a drawstring to tighten the "neck" of the shoe but new modern forms have an elastic binding and not needing a string to tighten around the foot.
